Solid Waste Elimination Entry Program-SWEEP
B.4 Environmental protection, climate change adaptation and mitigation
B.4.2: Reduce municipal waste generation, promote source-separated collection and its optimal exploitation, in particular its organic component
Solid waste in Lebanon is a challenging problem that finds no efficient solutions.
We plan to commit to source segregation by interacting directly with communities and encouraging them for using two types of bins like in EU communities.

Inorganic waste to be either sent to nearby recycling plant or to establish a plant for compressing plastic, cartoon.
Organic waste should similarly be sent for treatment plants or converted to compost.
People approach in communities in 15-20 Lebanese municipalities.
Ensure waste collection and disposal scheme, ex:
1. Securing bins and tags for various people responding to the initiative.
2. Inorganic waste to be either sent to nearby recycling plant or to establish a simple plant/house for compressing collected plastic, cartoon.
3. Organic waste should similarly be sent for treatment plants or converted to compost using established fermentation schemes.
4. Exchange of successful schemes among communities through media and publication.
5. Ensure no dumpsites at river source and the seashore.
Control of fate of waste generation.
–Establish recycling pathways and recycling facilities.
– Control of random dump sites.
– Elimination of incineration habits.
– Enhancing relation-ship and confidence with communities for solid waste treatment
– Boosting solid waste management awareness, reverse-vending machines at supermarkets/schools,...
- protection of underground water and air quality
