The Institut Supérieur des Sciences et Technologies de l'Environnement (ISSTE), Tunisian partner of RESMYLE, in collaboration with the Association de l'Environnement et du Développement de Soliman (AEDS), the Technopole Borj Cedria and the Municipality of Soliman are implementing a practical training workshop on the preservation of the natural environment of Sebkhet Soliman.

This site includes a lagoon, sandy areas and dunes. In addition to its nesting bird population, it serves as a refuge for species whose original habitats have disappeared. It is one of the few places in the region that retains water throughout the summer. Of national and international importance, it is an important refuge for waterbirds: this site has been designated as a RAMSAR (International Treaty on Wetlands) since 2007 and an IBA (Important Bird Area) since 2008.

The Sebkha of Soliman is of great ecological interest due to the quality and richness of the flora and the diversity of the avifauna (bird fauna). However, it is subject to enormous pressures (economic and environmental) which make it all the more vulnerable. It is in this context that the workshop is integrated by reinforcing the skills of young people in the management and maintenance of a sensitive and protected natural environment as well as in the development of tools and arguments for mediation with stakeholders (communities, companies, citizens, etc.).

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to
- Recognise natural species in the field
- Identify natural habitats
- Know how to manage/preserve a sensitive natural site
- Identify pressures and factors of environmental degradation
- Identify management and maintenance measures for the environment
- Manage a Ramsar and IBA area

These learnings will be developed during the activities carried out during the 15 days of the workshop.
