Boosting the vital role of Living Labs in technological transfer with MED-QUAD in Jordan

Al Balqa Applied University, a partner in the MED-QUAD project, has played a pivotal role in advancing technological transfer and the commercialization of public research results through Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) in the Mediterranean region. The National Center for Research and Development (NCRD) warmly invited participants to the Public Procurement Innovation Conference & Exhibition (PPI4MED), where Al Balqa Applied University showcased its contributions to this transformative endeavor.

The conference, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 17th and 18th, 2023, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, took place at Philadelphia University, located in the Al Balqa governorate of Jordan.

Professor Rebhi Damseh, the MED-QUAD Local Project Manager and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Al-Huson University College, was in attendance. Professor Damseh delivered a presentation that outlined the aims, products, and priorities of the MED-QUAD project. Furthermore, his presentation emphasized the importance of collaboration between universities and society within the Mediterranean region, highlighting the invaluable contributions made by Al Balqa Applied University and its partners.

The event brought together 75 participants, all eager to explore the cutting-edge innovations and collaborative efforts spearheaded by MED-QUAD and its partners. By fostering collaboration between academia and society, the initiative has enabled groundbreaking advancements in the Mediterranean region.

Engineer Ayat Khasawneh, a member of the MED-QUAD technical staff from Al Balqa Applied University, delved into the theme of "Enhancing University-City cooperation through connection with Living Labs" during her presentation. Ayat Khasawneh explored how the "Smart Water Use Applications Living Lab (SWUAP LL)" and "Cultural Heritage Exploitation Living Lab (ARCHEO)" have played pivotal roles in fostering innovation and progress within the region. She highlighted the impressive achievements made in these Living Labs and underscored the importance of bringing academia, enterprises, government, and communities together in collaborative ventures under the Quadruple Helix Approach. MED-QUAD’s Living Labs operate as essential tools to stimulate innovation as they could enable the public sector to direct the development of new solutions directly toward its needs.

The event served as an exceptional platform for enhancing the synergy between the ENI CBCMED Projects (PPI4MED and MED-QUAD), showcasing the power of partnerships and the positive impact that collective efforts can have on regional innovation and development.
