Call for tenders: construction of a water desalination plant in the MEDISS pilot site in Jordan

The Jordanian Partner, Aqaba Water Company  (AWC), has launched a call for tenders for the construction of the desalination plant for the Well of Al Risha, in Wadi Araba, Aqaba Governorate.

The closing date is on Monday 12/10/2020, 2:00 PM (Jordanian Time), where tenders will be publicly opened in the presence of tenderers. Any tender envelopes delivered after this date, will be rejected and returned unopened.

Aqaba Water Company invites specialized interested contractors, classified as Grade 3 or above in the fields of water and wastewater & electromechanical works.

Interested bidders can visit or contact the Procurement Department in the Head Office of Aqaba Water Company in Aqaba, Al-Hussain Bin Ali Street, to obtain a copy of the tender documents for free against the Certificate of Classification, duly valid, issued by the Ministry of  Public Works, and an Authorization from the Company to obtain the tender documents. Last date to obtain the tender documents is Sunday 6/9/2020

About MEDISS project
The “Mediterranean Integrated System for Water Supply” MEDISS project addresses the issue of improving the quality of saline groundwater present in the MED area opening up alternative irrigation for higher quality and more diversified cultivations.

Six partners are involved in the project: PWEG and Jericho Governorate (Palestine), Aqaba Water Company (Jordan), Institut des Regions Arides (Tunisia), CRENoS and ENAS with the local stakeholders Cooperativa Produttori Arborea, Comune di Arborea (Italy).

According to the features and specific needs of the partner areas, MEDISS will test innovative solutions in the use of treated wastewater and desalination of brackish water, including:

  • reverse osmosis (RO) desalination with innovative long lasting membrane and photovoltaic energy (Jordan);
  • blending of treated wastewaters with fresh wadi water and brackish groundwater (Palestine);
  • prototype ammonia stripping plant for fertilization (Italy);
  • tertiary treatment with innovative filter bed (Tunisia).
