On 19th September 2022, Al-Midan and the Ministry of Works and Transport, both Lebanese partners of Co-Evolve4BG, conducted a field visit to the coast of Batroun in the north of Lebanon. The team tries to find new types of stakeholders (i.e saltworks owners) and identify some activities that had not been mentioned before in the context of the blue economy and sustainable tourism, such as salt production. Therefore, they met with 5 salt works owners who are maintaining the work in very old salt works (from Phoenician times) in order to maintain salt production, protect the biodiversity and ensure some income. Artisanal salt production is a dying business because there are less and less workers in this sector and Lebanon is mainly importing salt.
