CROSSDEV final event in Sicily: The Hidden Mediterranean’s cuisine

As the end of the CROSSDEV project is approaching, public information events will take place in Italy, Jordan, and Palestine, while the main final event will happen in May in Jabal Moussa (Lebanon).

The Hidden Mediterranean’s cuisine - the first one of the local events - will be held in Sicily (Italy) on March 17th, 2023, at the IPSEOA, the Hotel Management School of Castelvetrano, attended by students from the municipalities involved in the CROSSDEV project in the area: Castelvetrano, Gibellina, Menfi, Sambuca di Sicilia, Santa Margherita Belice and Montevago. Over the years, this School’s teaching and management staff, as well as the students, have already participated in many activities that the project has carried out in the area.

During the event, the students of the Reception class will use information taken from the project’s Hidden Mediterranean platform to entertain and educate the public about the five sustainable destinations developed by CROSSDEV: Via Selinuntina, Jabal Moussa, Palestinian Heritage Trail, Umm Qais, and Aqaba. At the same time, the students from the Cooking class, divided into teams, will create dishes inspired to the gastronomic traditions of Italy, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine, the countries involved in CROSSDEV. This cooking competition will also celebrate the tenth anniversary of the inclusion of the Mediterranean Diet in the UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

At the same time, partners and local stakeholders will have the chance to talk about their experience and the results achieved thanks to the project, in support of the presentation that will be made by CROSSDEV Project Coordinator Deborah Rezzoagli of CISP (International Committee for the development of peoples, project’s lead beneficiary),.

The event will also be attended by the President of Iter Vitis and the Director of the Phoenicians' Route, the two Sicily-based Cultural Itineraries of the Council of Europe that inspired the creation of CROSSDEV.

A number of travel bloggers and influencers visiting Sicily and the Via Selinuntina area during that period will also take part in the event as special guests and members of the jury of the cooking competition.
