Pescatourism (commonly known as fishing tourism) is a solution to make the fishing sector more profitable. It is a rapidly growing sector and one of the possibilities for diversification of fishing activities to which Legacoop Agroalimentare, Italian partner of FISH MED NET, works for making it grow more. Particularly in this historical moment of post Covid, tourists want to experience the sea as fishers live it: get up at dawn, feel the salt on the skin, let yourself go into the blue, away from the crowd. It can also help stimulate the interest of young people in coastal areas, making the profession of  fisher more attractive and less expensive. Educating children from coastal areas and bringing young people closer to sustainable pescatourism will help protect and develop the value of cultural heritage and protect fish resources.

In this context, Legacoop Agroalimentare participated on 14th April 2022 in the training for fishery entrepreneurs "Pescatourism to diversify fishing and promote responsible tourism", a three-day event organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Porto Torres and at the Asinara island in the north of Sardinia.

The objectives shared by Legacoop Agroalimentare within FISH MED NET are to safeguard the maritime industries and the work of fishers, while enhancing the profitability of the fishing activities, which now opens to synergies and business alliances with other partners including the WWF who has appreciated the philosophy and the intentions of the transnational project. What emerged at Asinara focused on pescatourism as an all-round entrepreneurial activity where there is the need to manage bureaucratic aspects, define the tourism proposal, invest in marketing, organize the commercial part, and maintain the accounting and price lists up to date. In today’s digital world it is also an automatic advantage in keeping a presence among platforms, through Facebook and Instagram pages, responding to reviews, proposing and promoting yourself. But the effort to tackle a new aspect of the fisher’s job gives good results.
