On Monday April 11th, iHERITAGE members of the transnational focus group on intangible cultural heritage met online for the 5th time making a significant contribution to the development of the first Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Euro-Mediterranean Countries. Experts, anthropologists and representatives from Egypt, Jordan, Portugal, Spain and Italy presented some of the most important intangible elements of their countries. Up to now, 100 elements of Mediterranean culture and identity have already been analysed, studied and documented, and at least another 200 will be included in the register by the end of summer. By bringing together common elements and peculiarities of the shores of the Mediterranean, the register will allow users to browse texts, documents and multimedia materials on oral traditions and expressions, performing arts, social practices, rituals and traditional craftsmanship of the six countries involved in the project.

In celebration of current times: Religious and cultural rituals associated with the ongoing holy week of Catholic Easter and the holy month of Ramadan are both inscribed in the Registry of Mediterranean Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Follow iHERITAGE updates to discover when the register will be released in the next few months!
