MED-QUAD highlights the key role of civic universities for a productive collaboration between academia and citizens.

The International Hellenic University (IHU) and Epimorfotiki Kilkis sm LLC, Lead Beneficiary of the MED-QUAD project, host in Kilkis, Greece, the representatives of the project’s partners within the framework of the International Seminar on “Civic University”. The International Seminar was implemented during the period 31/3/22 to 1/4/2022.  

MED-QUAD Project is a cross-border cooperation project that aims to create the conditions for effective interaction between the main innovation players of the Quadruple Helix approach: academia, industry, civil society and governments in the digital economy. The project covers six countries from the Mediterranean through a partnership of seven complementary organizations.  

Fourteen representatives from Universities in Italy, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, and Palestine and thirteen representatives from the Lead Beneficiary and the International University of Greece (IHU) attended in person the international seminar and the 2nd steering committee meeting, which was implemented during the same period.  

The main goals of the Seminar were achieved through targeted presentations open in public via live streaming on Youtube. Participants had the opportunity for constant interaction, ideas exchange and extensive discussions about the main topics of the role of Civic Universities and to get to know the tasks and responsibilities under the MED-QUAD project. 

Specifically, ten presentations were conducted by 6 MED-QUAD Universities partners, which are the following: 

  • University of l’Aquila (L’Aquila-Italy), 

  • Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport- AASTMT (Alexandria-Egypt) 

  • Al-Balqa' Applied University – BAU (Salt-Jordan),  

  • University of Sousse (Sousse-Tunisia) 

  • Palestine Polytechnic University–PPU (Hebron-Palestine) 

  • International Hellenic University-IHU (Greece) 

     

The lecturers covered the full spectrum of the project's primary outputs. They produced crucial conclusions about the innovation aspect of the Quadruple Helix approach within the dimensions of the Civic University.
