From January 23rd to February 18th, 2023, the University of Sousse, a partner of the MED-QUAD project in Tunisia, organized a training seminar on the topic of "Universities within its environment" for the University faculty members and City Development Group. Thanks to funding from the European Union under the ENI CBC MED Programme, key players in the Quadruple Helix Approach were able to meet and receive training on important issues.

The first session was presented by Professor Abdelatif MRABET, who shared his insights on the history of water in Tunisia, while the second seminar was presented by Professor Hedi FAREH, who discussed the historical overview of the relationship between universities and society.

During the session, Professor MRABET emphasized the importance of water in Tunisia's history and development, exploring the country's historical and archaeological data related to water. He highlighted the role of aqueducts, water management systems, and other infrastructure in allowing the people of Tunisia to thrive in a challenging environment. The session was attended by more than 24 faculty and CDG members from various thematic sectors including archeology, tourism, health, water, and NGO representatives. The participants actively engaged in the discussion, gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of water in Tunisia's culture and its impact on the environment. They also recognized the need for sustainable water management practices to ensure a better future for Tunisia.

During the second session, Professor FAREH discussed the evolution of universities, their impact on society, and the challenges they face in a rapidly changing world. He emphasized the need for universities to adapt to changing circumstances and respond to the needs of society. The training session was attended by over 25 faculty and CDG members from various thematic sectors like historians, water company, health, ICT, and other NGO and association's representatives. The participants engaged in a lively discussion, sharing their views on the role of universities in society and the challenges facing universities in Tunisia. They explored ways to address these challenges and contribute to the development of society.

The outcome of the training sessions was significant, as they provided a deeper understanding of the role of water and universities in society and their impact on the development of Tunisia. The sessions encouraged the participants to reflect on the challenges facing their fields and explore ways to address them. They left with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to making a positive difference in society. Overall, the training sessions were informative, thought-provoking, and inspiring, demonstrating the value of education in driving positive change in Tunisia.

It is worth mentioning that in the same context of the MED-QUAD project, the 2nd training seminar for the members of the City Development Group implemented by the University of Sousse will take place between April 24-29, 2023.
