MEDISS Jordanian partner, the Aqaba Water Company is proceeding with the desalination plant for the Well of Risha, in Wadi Araba, in the pilot site of Aqaba Governorate.

The pilot site selected in the framework of the MEDISS project is a remote area surrounding Al Risha village. The main aim of the action is to improve access to water resources for irrigation and domestic use by local inhabitants. The project will provide around 3000 person with drinking water and  for human use  in this  area with high quality water after treatment. The pilot area is positioned in the so called Wadi Araba North Basin area.

The Aqaba Water Company supervisory staff inspected all the executed work carried out inside the structure, from the waterproofing system and steel reinforcement for the base of the water tank to the steel structure for the reverse osmosis plant and the verification of the functioning of its closure system. After completing the checks, the formwork was repositioned and the water tank was inserted.

This innovative system will be applied to the desalination plant of brackish groundwater, extending the membrane’s lifetime with inventive treatments and using renewable energy sources  for energy supply, contributing significantly to address water scarcity problems in the area.
