MedSNAIL in Lebanon sweetens your recipes with fig molasses
The MEDSNAIL project's goal is to protect and promote local agri-food products that are strongly linked to the territories and their respective communities in order to preserve agrobiodiversity, empower local farmers and promote more sustainable rural development. For this reason, the Lebanese partner, the American University of Beirut, has identified this product, in order to raise awareness of its quality and benefits and rekindle public interest in it, while supporting small local producers.
The American University of Beirut presents the following product in the frame of the "Heritage Guardians" campaign: the Lebanese molasses. Molasses is a naturally sweet, dense fruit syrup that is very popular in Lebanese cuisine. Figs are one of the oldest fruits in the region, they have naturally high fiber content, and are a source of vitamin K, iron, calcium, and potassium. Fig molasses can replace sugar in most recipes: desserts, beverages and even in salad dressings. It is used in desserts, to sweeten beverages and even added to salad dressings and to enhance flavors in stews.
