Monitoring Microplastics: COMMON partner 'INSTM' participates in 9th International Symposium


The COMMON project team of the National Institute of Sciences and Technologies of the Sea – INSTM has participated in the 9th international symposium entitled "Mediterranean coastal zones: problems and measurement techniques", which took place at the Natural History Museum of the Mediterranean in Livorno, Italy from June 14 to 16, 2022.

The Symposium, organized every two years, is aimed at Mediterranean researchers and addresses issues related to Mediterranean coastal areas and investigations in technical and instrumental solutions to face problems related to energy production in the coastal area, morphology, and evolution of coastlines, flora, and fauna of the littoral system, management, and integrated coastal protection, coastline geography, human influence on the coastal landscape.

It was an excellent opportunity to present the first findings and results concerning the monitoring of microplastics in the surface waters in the bay of Monastir as well as macro-litter on the beaches in the same area using the beach monitoring protocol of the COMMON project.
