The Institut Supérieur des Sciences et Technologies de l'Environnement (ISSTE), partner of RESMYLE, is organising a practical field training workshop from 4 to 17 March 2023 on the enhancement and prevention of fires in a natural forest ecosystem - the case of the Rimel forest, Bizerte.

In the Mediterranean region, huge fires often occur in summer. This is due to a combination of factors: the Mediterranean climate, the resulting drought and the water stress that makes the particularly inflammable plant cover vulnerable. The frequency of fires is greatly increased by human activity, whether criminal or accidental. More than ever, the protection of forests against these fires is a serious issue.

The objective of the workshop is to train young people to know the threats, to recognise the signs of potential fire, to know how to react in the vicinity of a fire, to know the consequences and to know how to value the forest ecosystem.

The participants will discover the Rimel forest ecosystem, have the opportunity to experience a blanket firefighting operation and test techniques for the valorisation of the forest in order to preserve it.

The workshop is open to young people between 18 and 30 years old, who are Not in Education, Employment  orTraining (NEETs). The working languages are French, Arabic and, secondarily, English.
