Sharing experiences in water use efficiency and non conventional water use: the second thematic web talk of the PROSIM project
One of the main objective of PROSIM project is to strengthen cross-border cooperation, capacity building and engagement in sustainable irrigation water management of local partner institutions at Mediterranean basin level, by sharing and capitalizing know-how; providing mutual support in the implementation of innovative solutions. To reach this goal, the project foresees 5 thematic web talks on irrigation solutions to guarantee regular, remote technical exchange and support among partners.
On the 7th of July, the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) organized the second web talk of PROSIM project focused on research and best practices implemented by the MoA and its partners in Lebanon regarding water use efficiency in irrigation and the use of non-conventional water for agriculture.
The meeting started the presentation of the national coordinator Dr. M. Mcheik, which illustrated the main plans and activities carried out by the MoA in Lebanon. Then, Dr. M.H. Nassif, Researcher and National Coordinator of the ReWater MENA project, IWMI, explained the Lebanon’s governance water framework and policies with a focus on irrigation and wastewater management and reuse, while Dr. M.T. Abi Saab from LARI presented a research on SMART Irrigation and the use of treated wastewater new technologies tested in irrigation. The talk was concluded by Eng. A. Slim, from Ecosystem S.A.R.L. who illustrated the application of technologies in irrigation on farm level
Representatives from PROSIM partner institutions were very interested in the contents presented and posed several questions to understand the replicability and adaptability of some innovations to their respective territories. PROSIM project has indeed the objective of fostering experiences and best practice exchange among professionals and policy-makers in the concerned countries, improving know-how and opportunities for the spreading of efficient irrigation practices in the Mediterranean basin.
