The Managing Authority of the ENI CBC MED Programme, in partnership with the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region - National Authority of the Programme for France - and the Euromed Cities Network, invites you to an online dialogue among elected officials from the Mediterranean on February 15, 2022 between 10 a.m. and 1.15 p.m. (CET). The event is organised in the continuity of the Mediterranean Worlds Forum to take place in Marseilles on 7 and 8 February at the initiative of the President of the French Republic. 

Rising temperatures, coastal erosion, intensification of heat waves, extreme weather events, desertification, degradation of ecosystems, increased risks of loss of biodiversity: the Mediterranean is bearing the full brunt of the effects of global warming.

In view of the magnitude of current and future challenges, Mediterranean territories must prepare today to adapt to the human and socio-economic consequences of climate change. Everyone is concerned - elected officials, economic players, citizens - and everyone must take action to prevent the risks associated with climate change. In this context, the role of local and regional governments is crucial in order to put in place territorial policies that foster a long-lasting and fair ecological transition which is adapted to the diversity of challenges to be addressed, including the development of circular economy, the improvement of energy efficiency, the proper management of natural resources or the greening of of traditional Mediterranean sectors such as agro-food and tourism. 

The event, to be introduced by representatives of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, European Commission’s DG REGIO and the ENI CBC Med Managing Authority, will bring together mayors from cities such as Mostaganem (Algeria), Sousse (Tunisia) or Sestri Levante (Italy) who will highlight their vision and strategies to deal with the many challenges associated with climate change. 

In addition, several ENI CBC Med projects will contribute to the discussions by sharing their experiences and results, notably the standard projects MEDISS (water management) and CLIMA (waste management), the strategic projects, OENOMED (sustainable wine-growing) and RE-MED (circular economy in the construction sector) as well as the capitalization project SEACAP 4 SDG (energy efficiency).

Finally, an outlook on the challenges, objectives and priorities of the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, the follow-up initiative to ENI CBC Med, will be presented. 

The event is addressed to any Mediterranean organization interested in the ecological transition as well as in the opportunities offered by the Interreg NEXT MED Programme. 

The event will take place on Zoom (link to be sent upon registration). Simultaneous interpretation in Arabic, English and French will be available.
