Towards a more sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean: join our event in Florence on 4th of May
Since 2021, the Interreg Euro-MED, Italy-France Maritime and NEXT MED Programmes, have been working together to enhance the good practices achieved by their respective funded projects to support and develop sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean.
The results of this pilot action, part of a pioneering multiprogramme coordination mechanism, will be presented during the event “Towards a more sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean” to take place in Florence, Italy on the 4th of May 2023 (Palazzo degli Affari - Piazza Adua, 1 from 9.30 to 17.00).
The event, to be structured around panel discussions and thematic workshops, will showcase a selection of successful experiences to develop a vibrant, sustainable and responsible tourism sector in the Mediterranean: these experiences derive from the ‘Sustainable tourism toolkit’, the very first concrete result of the cooperation among Interreg Euro-MED, Italy-France Maritime and NEXT MED Programmes. The toolkit contains a collection of inspiring solutions implemented by EU-funded projects to address some of the key challenges faced by the tourism industry in the Mediterranean, including for instance the reduction the environmental impact of touristic activities, the reinforcement of all year round tourism and geographical outreach, the involvement of SMEs and local communities in sustainable tourism development, etc.
The event will also be an opportunity to present the functioning and benefits of the multiprogramme coordination mechanism: aimed at facilitating complementarities and synergies among the Interreg Euro-MED, Italy-France Maritime and NEXT MED Programmes and contribute to local policy development with tested solutions, the mechanism is a collaborative platform open to other 2021-2027 Interreg Programmes and to be potentially extended to other key sectors.
Interpretation services will be provided throughout the morning sessions.
