A fundamental hub of the Lazio Region's economy, the port of Civitavecchia, already a national leader in the cruise sector, aims to become an important reference point in the Mediterranean for goods transport as well.

In this context, over the last decade, relations with the maritime ports of Spain and North Africa, in particular, have been further developed.

Now there are new and important development opportunities: the recent inclusion of the port of Civitavecchia among the 'Core' ports of the European Transport Network (TEN-T), the imminent establishment of the Simplified Logistics Zone, the development, thanks also to the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), of strategic infrastructures, represent a series of factors that will create favourable conditions for attracting new investment and increasing port traffic, while at the same time reducing environmental impact and contributing to competitiveness, sustainable economic development and increasing employment levels in the entire port cluster and the logistics chain.

In this context, today more than ever it is necessary to invert development models in every sector and adequately train young people and women to be included in the occupational contexts of the port sector. And this is one of the objectives that, together with the "Port Community", the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centro Settentrionale has set itself through the European project "YEP MED" (Youth Employment in Ports of MEDiterranean).

"Vocational" and "Occupational" training are fundamental for the training of the new workforce, especially the highly specialised and technical one that will have to gravitate in and around ports in the coming years. In February, the first edition of the "occupational training" was completed and about a fortnight ago the second edition of the "Vocational training" was also concluded with the delivery, by the President of the AdSP del Mar Tirreno Centro Settentrionale, Pino Musolino, of the diplomas of participation to the 53 participating students.

The training commitment of the Port Authority and the companies participating in the projects continues, thanks to which the new generations will be able to face the new challenges linked to the changes of the coming years in the management of shipping and logistics.
