The Association for Rural Capacity Development (ADR), partner of RESMYLE project, is organising a practical field training workshop from 12 to 25 March 2022 to explore ecology in Kfarsir and surrounding villages in partnership with the Municipality of Tyr Caza and the Nokta Fasle association promoting local development and raising community awareness of sustainable development goals.

The objective of the workshop is to explore the ecology of Kfarsir and the surrounding villages: identification of the components of the ecology, ecosystems, habitats, and the importance of biodiversity within them, as well as the identification of the main pressures.

After exploring the ecology of the area, the participants will work on preparing materials to raise awareness of this topic among the students of these villages.  

Indeed, the Litani River is an important water resource in southern Lebanon. It rises in the fertile Beqaa Valley, west of Baalbek, and flows into the Mediterranean Sea north of Tyre. At over 140 km in length, the Litani is the longest river in Lebanon and provides an estimated average annual flow of 920 million cubic metres. The waters of the Litani originate and flow entirely within the borders of Lebanon. It is a major source of water supply, irrigation and hydroelectricity, both in southern Lebanon and throughout the country. The village of Kfarsir, where the workshop will take place, and the surrounding villages are located on the borders of the Litani River and possess important riverine ecosystems and rich biodiversity: freshwater biodiversity, wetland biodiversity, etc.

Despite the importance of the environment, the region is unfortunately exposed to a number of pressures due to human activities in the area, resulting in water pollution and water quality. The workshop will engage the municipalities in identifying the main pressures on the Litani River and the surrounding ecosystem, in particular wastewater from a number of villages which is one of the main hazards.

The workshop addresses one of the most important environmental issues facing Lebanon, namely the fact that the Litani River is one of the main sources of water for the population of this region.
Participants will conduct interviews with the municipalities surrounding the Litani River in the target area to identify the pressure on this important environmental resource. They will also carry out fieldwork to identify the ecological components. Participants will experience working in groups and will work with local authorities and local communities. They will gain experience in communication in addition to technical experience.

An expert will intervene throughout the workshop at key points to provide food for thought, to respond to participants' expectations and questions, and to ensure that the workshop is also a learning-by-doing opportunity for the young participants.

The workshop participants will be able to acquire the following skills

- Introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals and ecological themes

- Identification of the components of ecology and biodiversity

- Familiarity with the preparation of awareness-raising materials

- Event organisation and communication (public speaking)

- Group work, time management and dealing with possible conflicts, etc.

The workshop is open to young people between 16 and 30 years old, not in education, training or employment (NEETs). The working language will be English and Arabic (translation provided).

L'Association pour le développement des capacités rurales (ADR), partenaire de RESMYLE, organise un atelier de formation pratique sur terrain du 12 au 25 mars 2022 afin d'explorer l'écologie à Kfarsir et dans les villages environnants en partenariat avec la Municipalité de Tyr Caza et l'association Nokta Fasle promouvant le développement local et à sensibiliser la communauté aux objectifs de développement durable.

Après avoir exploré l'écologie de cette région, les participants travailleront à la préparation de matériel afin d'accroître la sensibilisation à ce sujet parmi les élèves de ces villages.  

En effet, Le fleuve Litani est une importante ressource en eau dans le sud du Liban. Il prend sa source dans la vallée fertile de la Beqaa, à l'ouest de Baalbek, et se jette dans la mer Méditerranée au nord de Tyr. Avec plus de 140 km de longueur, le Litani est le plus long fleuve du Liban et fournit un débit annuel moyen estimé à 920 millions de mètres cubes. Les eaux du Litani prennent naissance et coulent entièrement à l'intérieur des frontières du Liban. Il constitue une source majeure d'approvisionnement en eau, d'irrigation et d'hydroélectricité, tant au Sud-Liban que dans l'ensemble du pays. Le village de Kfarsir, où se déroulera l'atelier, et les villages environnants sont situés sur les frontières du Litani et possèdent d'importants écosystèmes fluviaux et une riche biodiversité : Biodiversité des eaux douces, biodiversité des terres humides, etc.

Malgré l'importance de l'environnement, la région est malheureusement exposée à un certain nombre de pressions dues aux activités humaines dans cette zone, ce qui entraîne une pollution de l'eau et de sa qualité. L'atelier engagera les municipalités dans l'identification des principales pressions sur le fleuve Litani et l'écosystème environnant, en particulier les eaux usées provenant d'un certain nombre de villages qui constituent l'un des principaux dangers.

L'atelier traite de l'un des plus importants problèmes environnementaux auxquels le Liban est confronté, notamment le fait que le fleuve Litani est l'une des principales sources d'eau pour la population de cette région.
Les participants mèneront des entretiens avec les municipalités entourant le fleuve Litani dans la zone cible afin d'identifier la pression exercée sur cette importante ressource environnementale. Ils effectueront également un travail de terrain afin d'identifier les composantes écologiques. Les participants feront l'expérience du travail en groupe et travailleront avec les autorités locales et les communautés locales. Ils acquerront ainsi une expérience de la communication en plus de l'expérience technique.

Un expert interviendra tout au long de l'atelier à des moments clés afin de nourrir la réflexion, de répondre aux attentes et aux questions des participants et de s'assurer que l'atelier est également une occasion de formation sur le tas pour les jeunes participants (apprentissage par la pratique).

Les participants à l'atelier pourront acquérir les compétences suivantes :

- Introduction aux objectifs de développement durable et à des thèmes écologiques 

- Identification des composantes de l'écologie et de la biodiversité

- Familiarisation avec la préparation de matériel de sensibilisation

- Organisation d'événements et communication (prise de parole en public)

- Travail collectif, gestion du temps et gestion des conflits éventuels, etc.

L'atelier est ouvert aux jeunes entre 16 et 30 ans, ni en étude, formation ou emploi (NEETs). La langue de travail sera l'anglais et l'arabe (traduction assurée).
