It has been a week since the 12 participants in the international training workshop organised by the Association d'Education Relative à l'Environnement de Hammamet (AERE), partner of RESMYLE, from 7 to 21 November 2021 have been on the ground in Hammamet to design a discovery trail for the Hammamet International Cultural Centre - Tunisia (CCIH).

The 12 young participants all belong to the NEETS category, i.e. young people aged between 18 and 30 who are neither in employment, nor in education, nor in training. Nine young people are Tunisian from different regions of the country and three young people come from Jordan. They are supervised by a team of experts and local professionals active in the fields of landscape, environment, architecture, arts, communication, museography, etc.

The first few days were devoted to the immersion phase, sensitive reading of the site, meetings, documentation, visits, surveys, etc. in order to take ownership of the project, to develop a global reflection and to elaborate a discovery path for the Hammamet International Cultural Centre, inserted in a logic of rehabilitation and enhancement of the site to become an ecopark. The aim was to respect the spirit and authenticity of the site with its architectural, natural and heritage specificities.

After four days of work, two projects emerged from the reflection carried out by the  participants divided into two groups. They presented their visions, concepts and thoughts to the team. The challenge of the next stage will be to coordinate the two reflections as well as possible in order to arrive at a homogeneous project that will be defended during a public restitution session on Saturday 20 November 2021 in the presence of representatives of the local community, local associations, the municipality and technical and financial partners.

The main expected outcome of this workshop is the development of a technical file and a reference document for the implementation of the project in the framework of the partnership between AERE and CCIH. This file includes the visit circuit and the different stations (buildings and natural spaces) along it, as well as proposals for enhancement. In addition, awareness-raising materials and tools will be produced to enable visitors to discover or rediscover the different areas of the site and to
learn more about its natural, cultural and heritage assets.

This workshop is one of the activities of the project "RESMYLE - Rethinking employment and social inclusion of Mediterranean youth through sustainable
development" implemented locally by AERE and funded by the ENI CBC MED programme of the European Union. RESMYLE is a 3-year project, which brings together 9 partners  from five Mediterranean countries: France, Italy, Lebanon, Jordan and Tunisia.
