Is it possible to have a Mediterranean fashion style? This is the question we will try to answer at the Seminar and Business Meeting organized by the EU-funded TEX-MED ALLIANCES project.

The event, which will be held in Alexandria (Egypt) on 1 December, will bring together a brilliant panel of fashion experts, designers, and textile industry entrepreneurs from 7 countries. Specifically, Aida Zayed, Managing Director Fashion & Design Center from Egypt; from Spain, Andrea Carandini, Prints designer & illustrator specialized in textile design, fashion, color, and trend analysis, will participate directly from Alexandria, and Glòria Jover will participate virtually; from Italy, Roberta Lojacono, fashion designer & art director; Salah Barka,  Art director in Tunisia; Dina Maqdah, Fashion & design consultant in Jordan; form Palestine, Jabra Khoury, Fashion designer & stylist and from Greece, Venetia Koutsou, Fashion Designer, Forecaster, lecturer in Creative Design & Clothing dep., International Hellenic University (IHU).

In the Mediterranean basin, we have 22 countries, 16 different official languages, and a few more not officially recognized but in full use. Also, 3 main religions, different cultural references, cooking styles, and so on. But as we have the most valued diet, the Mediterranean diet despite all our differences, could we have also our fashion identity?

Guest experts will discuss this question during a round table about the "Mediterranean Fashion Style". In the words of the Technical Assistant Manager of the TEX-MED ALLIANCES project, Mr. Francesco Pellizzari, "when we talk about - the Mediterranean -, we talk about identity, something that we perceive as unique. However, we are all challenged by such an identity because, despite it being an identity, we hardly can outline or describe it. Its boundaries are fuzzy, its uniqueness dim. In a way, we know it exists but we don’t know how to figure it out! The Mediterranean is real but also “elusive”.

The second most important issue of the event will be the presentation of, TheMedNew, a brand that gathers different designers and SMEs of the fashion industry that aims at becoming a pivotal example of effective cooperation along the entire textile value chain for the Mediterranean sector. Mr. Hani Mourad, a key expert at TEX-MED ALLIANCES, and Mrs. Irene Salguero, fashion sales expert, will introduce participants to the new fashion business platform, based on the values of sustainability, social fairness and it is characterized by a “Mediterranean” identity (in a broad sense).

After the discussion panels, the attendees will be invited to participate in matchmaking meetings with representatives of the whole textile value chain. Companies from Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Tunisia, Spain, Italy, and Greece will participate in person to seek synergies and opportunities for business, cooperation, and collaboration

The TEX-MED ALLIANCES Seminar and Business meetings will take place in a hybrid format. For those that can't assist physically, the event will be broadcast online through the Zoom platform.
