The National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies (INSTM), Tunisian partner of MED4EBM conducted a training on the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) in Sfax, Tunisia between the 25th and 27th of January 2022. Twenty participants representing stakeholders of Kneiss Islands attended the training.

The training focused on providing the participants with the required methodologies and management tools to plan and implement the ecosystem approach to fisheries in the Kneiss Islands region to ensure sustainable exploitation of the target species.

Participants from Sfax University, the Coastal Protection and Planning Agency (APAL), the General Forest Direction (DGF), the Regional Commissariat for Developmental Agricultural (CRDA in Sfax), the association for the continuity of generations and the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries attended the three days training.

The training was led by the researcher Yassine Ben Arfa through presentations and a variety of interactive activities including, brainstorming exercises, competitive games, provocative discussions and workgroups. Furthermore, a case study for the implementation of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries in El Biban Lagoon and Djerba island (Gulf of Gabès, South-east Mediterranean Sea) was presented by researcher Hanem Djabou.
