FruitFlyNet-ii presents its solutions for combating olive and Med fly to local entrepreneurs and farmers

More than 60 entrepreneurs and scientists had the opportunity to expand their knowledge in relation to the new MedFlyNet and OliveFlyNet e-trap features against Med fly and Olive fly during an open dissemination event regarding the implementation of the LAS (Location Aware System) in the framework of FruitFlyNet-ii project. The main goal of the project is the Commercialization of an Automated Monitoring and Control System against the Olive and Med Fruit Flies of the Mediterranean Region.

The event took place on May 13, 2022 at the headquarters of the Olive Tree Institute, project partner, based in Sfax, Tunisia.

The scientific meeting was opened by Prof. Mohieddine Ksantini, General Director of the Olive Tree Institute who introduced the project and welcomed the following guests;

Prof. Theodore Tsiligiridis: Main Project Coordinator at the Agricultural University of Athens, Lead beneficiary of the project.

Prof. Dionysios Perdikis: Mean Techical Manager at the University of Athens, Lead beneficiary of the project.

Abdelwahed Mokni: University of Sfax rector

Ali Baklouti and Faiez Gargouri: University of Sfax vice-rectors.

All guests expressed their honor to be among the invited persons and exposed the importance of such project for research and development in Sfax region and Tunisia.Engineers from the National Oil Office and the Regional Commissariat for Agricultural Development were also present during the event.

First, Prof. Theodore Tsiligiridis, FruitFlyNet-ii project Coordinator at the Agricultural University of Athens (BEN) made a presentation entitled "The FruitFlyNet-ii project: An overview" followed by Prof Dionysios Perdikis who explained the importance of "the decision and spraying process" in connection with the OliveFlyNet and MedFlyNet traps.

Dr Ines Ksentini (Local Project Coordinator at the Olive Tree Institute) and Prof. Mohamed Braham (Local Project Coordinator at the Regional Center Research for Horticulture and Organic Farming) made both presentations about the implementation of the LAS on Bactrocera oleae and Ceratitis capitata in Tunisia

The meeting was an opportunity for scientists and farmers to exchange ideas, enlarge their knowledge about digital solutions and new technologies related to the use of the future FruitFlyNet-ii e-traps and their commercialization.
