The Spanish partner of the REUSEMED project, SADECO, will hold a large-scale event on June 3 to disseminate the benefits of bartering and raise awareness of its importance among the local population. The initiative will involve around 800 pupils from four schools in the city of Cordoba, who will donate their used toys and books and will afterwards be able to purchase objects donated by other schoolchildren at a street market.

During the month of May, project monitors will visit the schools to inform teachers and parents' associations about the system to be used to carry out the activity, and both teachers and students will be trained on these topics. After that, from May 30 to June 2, toys and books will be collected in the participating schools. On the day of the event, students will be picked up by buses that will transport them to the meeting place, where they will be able to exchange tickets for some of the objects contributed by students from other classes and schools.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of the benefits of bartering to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, since, according to 2020 data, 60% of these emissions come from non-responsible consumption. To address this problem, the exchange of goods and services is a solution within everyone's reach, because it helps to avoid immediate consumption by ensuring the exchange of objects that are no longer useful, but are in good condition.

REUSEMED proposes to create municipal networks based on reuse circuits for home appliances, furniture, books, clothes, Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment and food. To set up the networks, 4 cities in Spain, Italy, Jordan and Tunisia will design and test composting installations, food collection points in markets, repair and reuse centers, reuse corners in shops and repairing cafés.
