On the 11th and 12th of July, the Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), in partnership with Berytech, will host BESTMEDGRAPE International Conference.

Professor Richard Maroun, Dean of Faculty of Science at USJ, explains to us more about the conference; who will attend and what to expect?

Today, 2 years after launching the BESTMEDGRAPE project, funded by the ENI CBC Med Programme, Prof. Maroun assures that “we achieved almost all the goals and even more, especially on the scientific level, thanks to the international collaborations between laboratories in many countries, an enriching experience in itself. Moreover, regarding the business creation part, Prof. Maroun encouraged the idea of offering money vouchers to potential entrepreneurs in order to help them create their own start-ups. Encouraging young people to be innovative and start their own businesses is the essence of this project. During the International Conference, there will be scientific presentations about the work that has been done. The second day of the conference will include 5 sessions, each representing one of the 5 steps of the project.

Moreover, there will be a poster session, where several local and international scientists will present their scientific results. This session will allow everyone to share their results, thus a chance for everyone to participate. At the end of the session, a jury will choose the best two posters and a prize will be given to the winners.

The invitation to the conference is open to everyone interested in the project. All the partners will attend, in addition to scientists from Lebanon and abroad and students from the Saint Joseph University of Beirut. The Lebanese minister of industry, the general director of the Ministry of Industry as well as several Lebanese industrialists will participate in the conference and several European ambassadors will be invited to the launching ceremony.

Local wine industries will be present (Ksara, Kefraya, Saint Thomas), and they will have their own stands where the participants can have a taste of the Lebanese wine. Other local food industries will also display their products during the two days conference.

The door is still open for registration, with all the needed information available on this link:
