The TEC-MED Project: “Development of a Transcultural social-ethical-care model for dependent populations in the Mediterranean basin” since its inception has aimed at creating an innovative, integrated and patient-centered care model in six Mediterranean countries: Spain, Lebanon, Tunisia, Greece, Egypt, and Italy.

This new transcultural social and ethical model of care for old age, will allow to improve the care of the older persons through an integrated assessment and interventions through an online platform.

For the first time in Lebanon, a platform is dedicated to serving older persons and their caregivers and provides resources to help them and address their needs.

IDRAAC, the Institute for Development, Research, Defense, and Applied Attention, the main TEC-MED partner in Lebanon, started the pilot phase in Lebanon in April 2022. The first experiences were very enriching to the training agents, who after intensive training are now capable of carrying out the assessments as they were exposed to this new model of care, platforms, and resources that are most importantly adapted to the local context and language.

Recruitment of beneficiaries was done through collaboration with organizations, home visits, and community referrals aiming at reaching a total of 4700 older persons and caregivers.

Based on the assessment carried out online on the TEC-MED platform and the subsequent automatic results which direct to possible interventions, training agents carry out different interventions:

  • Personalized interventions targeting final beneficiaries involved in the pilot phase given by the training agent and based on the TEC-MED training platform which includes materials in English and Arabic compiled by IDRAAC in Lebanon
  • Personalized interventions targeting caregivers involved in the pilot phase given by the training agent and based on the TEC-MED training platform which includes materials in English and Arabic compiled by IDRAAC in Lebanon
  • Group interventions and/or family interventions
  • Referrals to capacity-building workshops and sessions in the community implemented by IDRAAC, the Institute for Development, Research, Defense, and Applied Attention, and community partners and organizations
  • Capacity building on the use of the TEC- MED training platform where different educational materials in English and Arabic are shared by the Institute for Development, Research, Defense, and Applied Attention.
  • Referrals to available resources and services in the community based on identified needs during the assessment for needs response and case management as needed

These interventions are based on the different dimensions in the TEC-MED assessment and aim at building the capacity of older persons and their caregivers and improving their quality of life through a holistic approach to care and service delivery.
