MED4EBM in Jordan participates in a clean up campaign in Aqaba

The Jordanian partner of MED4EBM, the Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan, participated in a cleanup campaign. On October 9th 2022. Other participants in the campaign included the Governorate of Aqaba, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Jordan Maritime Commission, the Directorates of Security, Civil Defense, the Youth Directorate, Youth Organizations and Initiatives, and local communities. The activity targeted Aqaba beaches and nearshore underwater. The number of participants from different sectors exceeded 250 persons.

The cleanup campaign aimed at spreading environment awareness to the local community and visitors in Aqaba and advocating for the conservation of nature as a duty for everyone and a value to adhere to.

The Governor of Aqaba indicated that this is a beginning of an ongoing campaign. Further awareness will follow and legal procedures will be taken against anyone who violates the regulations of waste dumping prevention on Aqaba beaches or under the sea. There will be thorough monitoring and follow-up by the Environment Police, Royal Navy Force and Jordan Maritime Commission.

Chief Commissioner, of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, elaborated on the efforts made in the campaign, as it reflecting the perspective pursued by His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein and HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein for conservation of marine life and keeping our beaches clean.
