The Italian partners of the REUSEMED project have presented the reuse plan developed for the municipality of Capannori after the work of codesign they have carried out over the last few months. The result is a specific plan that outlines the entire journey that citizens and companies in the region can take to reuse objects of all kinds, as well as activities to raise awareness and disseminate the tools available to users of reuse.

Specifically, citizens who want to donate an item can call a reference telephone number to request home collection or deposit it in the circuits designed for this purpose, which will be explained by telephone or through the website of the City Council of the municipality, which contains information on reuse centers, a map with their location and a list of materials that can be reused, as well as a list with directories of information and references for consultation. In order to involve companies in these donations, different initiatives will be promoted, such as the issuance of certificates to user companies or the promotion of informative events and actions.

Citizens will be able to request goods donated by other users free of charge if they are in need; purchase the good in the reuse centers built; go to temporary stores set in ‘Cittadella del riuso’, a very large space that the administration plans to use as a stable "showcase" in which organizations involved in reuse can buy and sell; or buy online through a landing page linked to the site and maintained by each center.

In addition, the plan calls for the establishment of a network of municipal reuse systems to encourage the practice of reuse. This includes a secretariat service that, in addition to providing information to citizens/businesses, will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of the municipal system; a reuse festival to be held annually; a shared transport system paid for by the network itself; and shared buying and selling and storage spaces for reuse organizations to use, among other initiatives.

In addition, the plan includes an awareness-raising plan with activities to be carried out in schools, businesses and public spaces, including the distribution of information kits, outdoor advertising, information visits, open days, etc.

REUSEMED proposes to create municipal networks based on reuse circuits for home appliances, furniture, books, clothes, Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment and food. To set up the networks, 4 cities in Spain, Italy, Jordan and Tunisia will design and test composting installations, food collection points in markets, repair and reuse centers, reuse corners in shops and repairing cafes.
