Marine litter: Register now for the Final International Conference of COMMON project!
The INSTM (Tunisian partner of the project) will host the Final International Conference of COMMON in Tunisia.
When and where?
The event will take place at Carthage Thalasso Hotel, Tunis on the 7th and 8th of February 2023. It will be attended by the projects’ partners, politicians, and researchers from the Mediterranean area.
The Closing Conference of COMMON (COastal Management and MOnitoring Network for tackling marine litter in Mediterranean Sea), funded by the ENI CBC MED Programme, will be held on the 7th and 8th of February 2023 at Carthage Thalasso Hotel, Tunis.
The event will present the final results of the COMMON project, aimed at applying the principles of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) to support the reduction of marine litter issues in the Mediterranean basin. In particular, the conference's purpose is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices between Italy, Lebanon and Tunisia as pilot areas to prevent the problem of waste at sea with an integrated and coordinated approach.
The conference will be held over two days.
On the first day, we are honoured to have high-ranking officials opening the conference. Among the guests there will be representatives from ENI CBC MED, from the Union for the Mediterranean, the European Union and the Tunisian minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Maritime Fisheries and the Tunisian minister of higher education. The two sessions of the first day will be dedicated to presenting the results and achievements of the project and going in deep into the scientific aspects of the marine litter problem, such as monitoring using harmonized protocols, with a dedicated session led by the international expert Prof. Cristina Fossi from the University of Siena.
The second day will be dedicated to policies and initiatives in the Mediterranean basin to tackle marine litter issues, and the official publication of the Mediterranean report: best practices to tackle marine litter in the Med, there will be with the presence of present guests from the UNEP MAP, European Union, and important Mediterranean Networks.
