The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), one of CEOMED partners in Spain studied the capacity of the process presented in the project to obtain fertilisers and biomethane. During their studies, they could observe that the quantity of the organic matter directly affects the final efficiency of the process. When the organic loading rate was up to 1.0 g, the process was unstable, as well as the presence of some volatile compounds resulted in an abundance and species diversity decrease of the microorganisms in charge of the digestion of the waste. This kind of research could let the replication of the optimised process at larger scales in the future.
