The MedFlyNet in-field demonstration event organized by the University of Molise, Italy

On 12th October 2023 at the Verbesi farm in Corcolle, near Rome, the demonstration activity of the MedFlyNet system was held at the Italian large site of the FruitFlyNet-ii project. The meeting was opened with greetings from the participating authorities, in particular the Latium regional councillor for Agriculture and Forestry, Dr Giancarlo Righini. Prof. Andrea Sciarretta, from the University of Molise, with his collaborators, demonstrated the e-trap functioning and explained the decision support system for producing risk maps and subsequent alerts to carry out insecticide treatments only when and where it is actually needed. Then, there was a dissemination event on medfly management and more generally on stone fruit protection, with scheduled talks by Dr Patrizia Ferrante and other researchers from CREA- Research Centre for Olive, Fruit and Citrus Crops in Rome, which participated to the project as subcontractor of Unimol. The event was well attended by more than 50 farmers from the Lazio region, who expressed the great support for FruitFlyNet-ii and the innovative tools for medfly control set in the project.
