Skills4Sports: What Palestinian stakeholders think about youth employment in the sports sector

A significant number of stakeholders with various roles in youth and sports sectors participated in the Skills4Sports Press and Info Day held at Ramallah, Palestine on June 30th, 2021.


All the invited stakeholders emphasized on the great importance of the project for the increase of youth employability through the reduction of existing skills gap between young neets and companies’ requirements in the sports sector.

In particular, Dr. Saba Jamar, Dean of Sports Sciences Department of Arab American University-Jenin said: "Today was fruitful, there were many different people from the sports sector recreational or non-recreational. What was nice is that a conversation and discussion leads to brainstorming new ideas how to develop this sector or at least how to develop new cooperation that will be supportive.”

For the new era in the sports media through Skills4Sports project referred Mr. Ihab Abu Markhiyeh, Journalist of Super sport “Through developing the skills present of course we are, as a sports media, very committed on focusing on these activities, in increasing the reach of these news and clarifying and reaching the audience through the platforms available through social media and sports platforms and through the programs broadcasting sports.”

Fianlly, concerning the needs in education and the opportunities that the project develop, the Director of the Continuing Education of Palestine Polytechnic University, Eng Ashraf Zaghayyer and the Director of sports Activities Department of Ministry of Education, Mr.Aref Asayrah, declared that there is a need to refine the skills for those who work in this sector and there is a need for new trainings that will form opportunities for new work or form a new labor market (Eng Ashraf Zaghayyer) and that there is a need of a strategic plan and governmental decisions so that the Ministry of Education, the most important sector having the capacity for graduates, multiplies that capacity and develops additionally a center for sport activates teachers (Mr.Aref Asayrah).
