CEEIM, business and innovation center of the Murcia Region (Spain), as lead partner of SME4SMARTCITIES - an ENI CBC MED funded project -participated in an online event that followed the Summer Course that was organized by EURADA on 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd of July 2020. The course was focused on programmes useful for regional development agencies like H2020, COSME or Interreg Europe. The project proposals supported territorial cooperation, innovations in companies and regional economic development.

Speakers have been invited among the participants of E2Tech4SmartCities (Energy Efficient and Sustainable Technologies for Smart Cities) with the objective to contribute to the S3 (Smart Specialization Strategy) Thematic Platform for Sustainable Buildings.

Under the topic of “International innovation by regional and international projects”, CEEIM presented an overview of Murcia Region (Spain) and its RIS3 (Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialization) Strategic lines which are:

1.- Specialisation: to promote knowledge creation and transfer, foster entrepreneurship and business creation, drawing on knowledge and strengthen human resources specialisation and training.

2.- Internationalization: supporting the knowledge and economic capabilities of the Region of Murcia and its integration into the global economy.

3.- Hybridization: to promote cooperative, multidisciplinary R&D between public and private stakeholders, enhancing network creation and participation.

And how CEEIM can collaborate as Business Innovation Center to these objectives? One of the main strategic axes of CEEIM is to improve and support the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem through the participation in European projects such as the SME4SMARTCITIES, which is completely aligned with the organization objectives  on the creation and consolidation of innovative and technology based companies.

The SME4SMARTCITIES project allows our organization to financially support SMEs directly through the sub-grants procedure (indirect financial contribution through an EC grant Beneficiary to a sub-grant Beneficiary for an action intended helping to achieve the objective of EC grant contract), which is the best way to offer value services from our innovative incubator in the consolidation phase of the startups and SMEs.

Finally, it is important to highlight that we find this kind of European funding the best way to open regional technologies to international markets. In the context of globalization, the internationalization and worldwide visibility of technology developments is of utmost importance.
