Anti- and Pro-Oxidant Activity of Polyphenols Extracts of Syrah and Chardonnay Grapevine Pomaces on Melanoma Cancer Cells

The phenolic composition of Syrah and Chardonnay grape pomaces was studied to assess their antioxidant and prooxidant properties. This study shows the potential of winemaking by-products and suggests the opportunity to exploit them for the production of cosmeceuticals, or for combined therapies with approved anticancer drugs.

Valorization of wine-making by-products’ extracts in cosmetics

Grape pomaces are considered of interest due to their high content in bioactive molecules, especially phenolic compounds. The latter can be recovered from grape pomace and used as active ingredients in easily marketable cosmetic products. Indeed, phenolic compounds are well known for their remarkable beneficial properties at the skin level, such as antioxidant, antiaging, anti-hyperpigmentation and photoprotective effects. This review aims to describe the strategies for recovery of polyphenols from grape pomace, to highlight the beneficial potential of these extracts and their potential utilization as active ingredients in cosmetic products.

Technological analysis: wine, cosmetic and nutraceutical industry differences among countries and geographical areas (France, Jordan, Tunisia and Lebanon)

The first part of this analysis (Technological Analysis) focused on a pre-competitive study of the three main sectors of interest (Wine, Cosmetics and Nutraceuticals). The main KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) of the market, development and contraction trends were analyzed and exposed, with a particular focus on products and channels, especially as regards the Cosmetics and Nutraceuticals sectors. The main trends regarding consumers and the reference legislation were also identified and exposed. Finally, the main stakeholders involved in the three sectors were identified and classified on the basis of their potential sphere of influence.

Technological analysis about Italian wine, cosmetic and nutraceutical industries

An analysis of the Italian main economic sectors of interest for obtaining and supplying the by-products from winemaking, as well as the range of possible uses for obtaining innovative products, with particular attention to the concepts of conomics circular and social and environmental sustainability. An entire paragraph has been dedicated to an in-depth analysis of the legislation relating to the disposal of residues from winemaking.

An outlook on modern and sustainable approaches to the management of grape pomace by integrating green processes, biotechnologies and advanced biomedical approaches

Grape pomace is the main solid residue of wine industry, mainly composed of seeds, skins and stalks, all containing high amounts of valuable phytochemicals. Considering its high potential, in this review, an outlook on different resources and products, which can be obtained by the recovery of grape pomace is provided.

From waste to health: sustainable exploitation of grape pomace seed extract to manufacture antioxidant, regenerative and prebiotic nanovesicles within circular economy

Pomace seed extract loaded vesicles were prepared as promising technological and green solution to exploit agri-food wastes and by-products, and develop high value-added products for human health. An antioxidant extract rich in bioactive compounds was obtained from the seeds isolated from the pomace of Cannonau red grape cultivar. Overall results suggest the potential uses in food supplements for the treatment of intestinal disorders.
