Thanks to the YEP MED project, more than 90 trainees of the International Trade and Transport and Logistics vocational training course have been trained in subjects related to the Port of Damietta and its Port Community. Due to some Covid-19 procedures, the course was divided into 3 editions, 30 trainees per edition, 10 days long each, and was imparted over 50 hours.
The main goal of this training, which was given virtually with a few physical lectures, was to provide trainees with first-hand information about the Port of Damietta, its infrastructures, logistics equipment and operations, which was designed to enable companies in the sector to illustrate their newly needed activities as well as the professional profiles they need to develop properly.
Some of the classes which were given by current professionals from the Port Authority of Damietta, Port Training Institute, companies and organizations representing the sector delivered:
1.Introduction to the Port Logistics Community (Ports: physical space, legal framework and governance, port operations for ships and goods and their operators and port connections with road and rail transport ),
2.Port Logistics Community Actors (Maritime Customs, Customs Brokers Association and Freight Forwarders Association),
3.Environment and Smart Ports (Environment in Ports: water, air, energy and smart ports)
In addition to the theoretical (virtual) classes, the course included 2 scheduled visits for each group to the Port of Damietta.
Port Training Institute focuses on updating the curriculum of these courses which are currently taught within this project plan and all of its related activities in terms of dual training to ensure that the trainees gain the needed skills that fill the future demands of their local port logistics field.
