Ethics, legality, environmental and social sustainability: common pillars between the path of InnovAgroWoMed and “fa bene Sicilia”.
The study path of the InnovAgroWoMed participants in Italy is fully in swing. Throughout it, they are encountering stories, experiences, practices of engagement and passion of stakeholders that daily work for the ethical and sustainable growth of the territory.
Following the memorandum of understanding between CESIE, Italian member of the InnovAgroWoMed project, and Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani , we could not miss the experience of “fa bene” (It feels good!)
Who is "fa bene Sicilia"?
"Fa bene Sicilia" is a social and community cooperative that promotes social cohesion and the reduction of inequalities through sustainable food.
It came out from a project of the Fondazione Comunitaria di Agrigento e Trapani during the 2020’s lockdown. To answer to the enhanced inequalities, the foundation decided to valorise the potentialities of the territory and the agri-food sector.
"Fa bene Sicilia" is inspired by the socio-economic development of the Foundation S-nodi (Turin, Italy) featuring it within the local context.
The Italian local markets of the model from Turin are replaced by a fair and sustainable e-commerce (online in the next few weeks) with a set of agri-food products from the regional supply chain. The associated producers are selected after a strict check of criteria dealing with quality, ethical, environmental and social aspects.
To buy from the e-commerce you should adhere to Gruppi di Acquisto Familiari – GAF (Ethical purchasing group) made by responsible families who decide to buy together choosing from a catalogue of products from the sustainable short food supply chain, respecting the territories and the rights of workers.
How to combine an e-commerce, that is by nature a “distant” sales channel with a community project such as “fa bene Sicilia”?
Lastly, the creation of the social cooperative allows making permanent the project’s activities as well as to create labour inclusion paths for vulnerable people that will be employed in the cooperative.
InnovAgroWoMed participants in Italy flooded of questions CESIE's guest and a common thought started to growth: could an InnovAgroWoMed “Gruppo di Acquisto Familiare” come to life?
To be continued…
The goal of the project InnovAgroWoMed is to boost women employability and entrepreneurshipin the agri-food sector, an industry closely linked to the cultural identity of the Mediterranean region and showing a significant level of untapped potential in terms of innovation and growth.
