Plastic Busters CAP is looking for a consultant in marine litter policies

Legambiente, Italian partner of Plastic Busters CAP project, is looking for a consultant in marine litter policies, who will have the following main responsibilities:

1. Support in the elaboration of policy brief on the state-of-play of policy actions on marine litter in the Mediterranean. 

The policy brief will include up-to-date info on the marine litter challenge in the Mediterranean and the state-of-play of policy actions within the framework of the EU MSFD, the EU Plastics Strategy, the Single-Use Plastics Directive, the Barcelona Convention Regional Plan for ML Management in the Mediterranean and the ECAP implementation, the Draft Declaration of the upcoming UfM Ministerial Meeting on Environment and Climate Action as well as the UfM 2030GreenerMed Agenda.

2. Development of recommendations for a marine litter management approach. 

Concrete recommendations for a marine litter management approach that couples EbM & ICZM will be elaborated, addressed to decision and policy-makers. They will be drafted via a participatory approach and will build on the contributions shared by the participants in a workshop for mainstreaming marine litter in local and national planning, organised by the Tunisian partner of the project.  

Deadline: 12/07/2023 

The results of these two activities will be included in a final deliverable, a Policy toolkit dedicated to policy-makers working at all levels of governance. 

Qualification and Skills

  • University degree in sociology, public policy, politics, law or an equivalent marine environment oriented scientific degree.  
  • Knowledge in both national and Mediterranean environmental legislation.   
  • Knowledge in EU environmental legislation is an asset.   
  • Knowledge in EbM approach and ICZM principles application in the framework of marine litter /waste issue is an asset.   
  • Knowledge of existing policy and regulations at national/European/Mediterranean level, specifically those related to coastal waste management and marine litter mitigation actions.  
  • Proved experience in fields related to plastic and packaging waste, marine environmental sustainability, climate change, marine pollution, or circular economy and blue economy.   
  • Participation in research projects, specialization courses and/or PhD course in thematic areas strictly related to the subject of the contract will also be assessed.   
  • Excellent writing skills.  
  • Demonstrate analytical assessment of qualitative and quantitative data.  
  • English proficiency 

Duration

Start as soon as possible, until the delivery of the expected outputs within July 2023.
