TECHLOG Launches Eastern Living Lab to Enhance Efficiency and Sustainability of Transport Operations in Egypt

On March 12th on the sidelines of the annual MARLOG conference, the largest International Maritime Transport and Logistics Conference in Alexandria, in its 12th edition, the Egyptian TECHLOG Living Lab and technology transfer center was launched. 

The aim of the living lab is to achieve common quality standards and safety levels for transport operations in the Mediterranean region and to enhance its efficiency and sustainability. The launch event was organized by the College of International Transport and Logistics - (CITL Alexandria) at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in cooperation with the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations (CEEBA) and the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce - Alexandria Chamber.

The Living Lab Technology Transfer Center is located in Alexandria, Egypt where new technologies will be developed and tested on the campus of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport before being transferred to private and public sector beneficiaries. The Center is part of the permanent cross-border cooperation between the European Union and the Mediterranean, in which research organizations and the maritime and land transport industries are involved in creating, testing, and sharing new technology transfer initiatives based on advanced simulation techniques.

The launch event brought together key stakeholders in the transportation sector in Egypt, including shipping and logistics companies, cargo handling companies, and representatives of the Transport and Ports Authority. The ceremony began in the presence of His Excellency Major General / Reda Ismail, Head of the Maritime Sector at the Ministry of Transport. It was followed by speeches from Mr. Ahmed Elwakil, President of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce - Alexandria Chamber, Dr. Alaa Ezz, General Secretary of the Confederation of Egyptian-European Business Associations (CEEBA), and Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdel Bary, Vice President of the Academy for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.

The event was moderated by Prof. Dr. Alaa Morsi, Head of the Port Simulator Complex, and Dr. Sandra Haddad, Vice Dean of the Faculty of International Transport and Logistics at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. The participants discussed technology transfer procedures to improve the capabilities of the sector's engines.

The launch of the Living Lab for Technology Transfer in the Field of Transportation in Egypt is a significant step towards achieving the objectives of the TECHLOG project. By creating a living lab where new technologies can be developed and tested, the center will contribute to enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of transport operations in the Mediterranean region. The involvement of key stakeholders from the transportation sector in Egypt in the launch event is also an indication of the sector's commitment to innovation and improvement.
