APPLY NOW: WeMed Sustainability Award for Green Changemakers of the Mediterranean

The 2023 edition of the WeMed award, funded by ENI CBC Med ‘RESET’ project, aims to recognize entrepreneurs/start-ups and Business Support Organizations delivering for the green transition in the Mediterranean. Deadline for application: 4 September 2023.

The WeMed Mediterranean Sustainability Award is one of the first awards aiming to recognize an inclusive transition to sustainability in the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean faces an array of environmental and social challenges. Climate change, biodiversity loss, rapid urbanization and increased resource consumption and waste are just a few of these challenges that require radical change to confront.

Luckily, there are many SMEs adopting environmental and social innovations in their business models that tackle these challenges. However, they face many obstacles that “business-as-usual” companies, that don’t take into account any of their social or environmental impacts, don’t face. This is why an enabling policy environment is key to let circular and green businesses thrive in the Mediterranean

In its third edition 2023, the award seeks to identify changemakers that have a clear focus and mission aligned with the Green Business Support, Circular Economy, eco-innovative entrepreneurship field, within the following categories:

  • Business Support Organizations
  • Entrepreneurs/Start-ups

There will be 6 prizes in total of 9.000€ each given in the form of consulting services and technical assistance.

In this edition, the WeMed Award is targeting Business Support Organizations (BSOs) and Entrepreneurs/Start-ups that are or have been direct beneficiaries of at least one of the 19 EU-Projects analyzed under ENI CBC Med ‘RESET’ project in the field of Green Business Creation & Circular Economy. Applicants should have benefited from one of the outputs (best practices, knowledge, tool) in one of the Mediterranean eligible regions within the ENI CBC MED Programme and have women (no age limit) and/or youth (up to 35 years old) in their team. Check the guidelines to learn more.

Applications are open from the 17th of July to the 4th of September, and you are invited to apply to get recognition and support for your project. The award’s page, has all the information required to successfully go through the application process.

The WeMed Award is organized by MedWaves (the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production) and recognises success stories of sustainable businesses and other actors supporting them. It raises awareness about the role of sustainable entrepreneurs as key drivers for the transition towards a green, circular and blue economy in the Mediterranean, as well as the challenges that they face and the important role of different actors to support them (public authorities, business support organisations, educational organisations, financial actors, civil society organisations…). The award also offers visibility to the contributions on behalf of ventures within the green, blue and circular economy to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the Mediterranean region.

This edition is funded by the ENI CBC Med Programme in the framework of the RESET project – “RESults Enabling Transitions: mapping, synthesising and mainstreaming sustainable, green and circular business support achievements in the MED region, for replication and policy-making”. The project aims to facilitate economic and social development via supporting the creation of sustainable and green businesses that will lead to sustainable job creation for youth and women. It is jointly implemented in Spain, Lebanon, Italy, Palestine
and Tunisia by MedWaves.
