SMART4GREEN
Open-Innovation strategy that connects research, industry and other sector actors in solid waste management to tranfrom the way stakeholders interact with waste and associated environmental impacts.
A.2 Support to education, research, technological development and innovation
A.2.1: Support technological transfer and commercialisation of research results, strengthening the linkages between research, industry and other private sector actors
Nowadays, designing the delivery of solid waste management services, goods and policies in a more effective, efficient and sustainable way is in high demand. Also, Improving waste management is a challenge for legislation efforts in many countries in Mediterranean, key objectives are stimulate innovation in recycling, limit the use of land-filling, and create incentives to change stakeholders behavior.
Furthermore, turning waste into a resource is one key to a circular economy.Improved waste management also helps to reduce health and environmental problems, reduce greenhouse gas emissions (directly by cutting emissions from landfills and indirectly by recycling materials which would otherwise be extracted and processed), and avoid negative impacts at local level such as landscape deterioration due to land-filling, local water and air pollution, as well as littering (European Commission,2018).
With this project, we aim to study and publish information on solid waste management and the associated environmental impacts in the targeted regions and to develop an open-innovation program to transform the way actors interacts with waste, which connects stakeholders from related research and industry to support the co-creation of innovative services and products based on waste and environmental related studies;
1) to collect waste data related the production and management of waste from businesses, households and etc.;
2) to collect environmental data associated to solid waste process management;
3) to publish a comprehensive report providing information on waste and the associated environmental impacts;
4) to develop an open-innovation program to transform the way actors interacts with waste, which connects stakeholders from related research and industry to support the co-creation of innovative services and products based on waste and environmental related studies;
5) to develop enablers and tools that support the open-innovation program in waste and environment impacts.
1) comprehension reports of information on waste and the associated environmental impacts;
2) co-creation of open-innovation program for sharing visions, knowledge, skills, experience and strategies between research, industry and other private sector actors to improve the waste management and minimize associated environmental impacts;
3) development of open-innovation enablers and tools needed to implement the open-innovation program in waste management and associated environmental impacts.
