The energy analysis of the "Palau de Calatayud", the Spanish pilot building of the BEEP project, will be carried out during the month of June. The work will be carried out by a local energy consultancy called Valnu, selected last May following the published call for tenders, and will be coordinated by the "Instituto Valenciano de la Edificación", the Spanish partners of the project.

The energy analysis will serve to confirm the construction parameters to be integrated into the digital model of the building, developed through BIM methodology (BIM: Building Information Modelling). The modelling of the building has been carried out over the last few months, and the extensive historical information collected on the building has been integrated into the model.

The information obtained from the energy analysis will also be integrated into the BIM model. The updated model will be the basis for the energy simulation of the building, which will be carried out in a second stage of work by the same technical team performing the energy analysis, which is expected to be finished in July.

The simulation of three renovation scenarios will be considered (in the short, medium, and long term). The results of the simulations may be of great use for the renovation project of the building, currently underway, to bring the building back into administrative use since, as already announced in the early stages of the project, the "Palau de Calatayud" is not currently in use. After its renovation in the 1980s, the building was used as an administrative building until about ten years ago.

About the BEEP project:
BEEP project aims at strengthening the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to enhance energy efficiency in buildings. The testing of this emerging technology on built heritage will be performed to demonstrate its scalability to the entire building stock. The project will provide public administrations with a powerful method for the energy rehabilitation of public buildings to be supported with private funds through the Energy Performance Contracting. The project main outcome will be an innovative methodology based on the integration of emerging technologies tested on heritage public buildings.
