The Tyre Coast Nature Reserve (TCNR), one of COMMON project partners, organized the first local working group of the project on 25 July, a training activities for local stakeholders in order to promote the relationship between marine waste management and the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM).

In particular, "the meeting aimed to meet and present the training list to all members selected for the local working group to build cross-border capacity for coastal institutional staff and all stakeholders of the TCNR target areas related to planning ICZM "said Nahed Msayleb, Director of Tyre Coast Nature Reserve and partner of the COMMON project.

The event was attended, among others, by fishermen, tourist boat operators, representatives of associations, museums and companies committed to promoting environmental sustainability, in addition to the Municipality of Tyre.

The workshop was a fruitful moment to think how the beach of TCNR can support the reserve’s Turtle Rescue Center, and that it could be used as a venue to conduct raising awareness activities about sea turtles, the importance of its protection, and on marine litter impact.

"These workshops could be also the proper venue for the Local Working Group members who have certain skills to demonstrate at the beach, especially recycling and upcycling, with tourists, school students and children, involving them in the making-of process", concluded Nahed Msayleb. "The attendees were enthusiast to begin these activities".
